To all our relations
If you don’t know much about us, that’s OK… we are here and we aren’t going anywhere. There are lots of stories about us. What you really need to know is that we love our people very much and we want to see good things happen for our kids. We live life, make prayers, sing our songs, work hard and celebrate joys and fight through the hardships and sorrow. The true Lakota way of life is an absolutely beautiful one. It may not always be perceptable to outsiders, because we are a humble people, and that’s quite alright with the majority of us. Often there are many obstacles put in our path, but at the end of the day, we make it happen. All in all, it is a truly wonderful feeling to be able to say “I am Lakota”… “I am Oglala.”
To our Oglala relatives
How are you? Maybe we saw each other at Big Bat’s the other day or over at Oglala Lakota College after class. Maybe you moved away because of a marriage, military, job, or school and we haven’t seen you in a while. One way or the other we are glad you are out there! Well, we have been through more than many human beings should have had to put up with, but we are still here. Pretty tough, huh? Sure we still have many battles, struggles, hardships and tradegies, but we also have many joys, gatherings, ceremonies, and opportunities too! We will always be here and we will overcome whatever is in our path. Why? Because we are Oglalas… Lakota… and we will always have the ability to take our destiny into our own hands when we choose it.
