Oyate Omniciye | Oglala Lakota Planning Project Update

Hello Relatives,

This is an update for the Oyate Omniciye | Oglala Lakota Planning Project.

The Consortium had a few recent additions; which is a non-profit working to teach the Lakota Language to youth,  Native American Natural Foods (NANF) which is focused on creating a family of nationally branded food products that are delicious and that promote a Native American way of wellness that feeds mind, body, and spirit and Lakota Funds which is community development financial institution (CDFI) leading an economic resurgence of the Oglala Lakota Oyate on the Pine Ridge Reservation through culturally appropriate strategies reigniting the traditional Lakota spirit of productivity, commerce, and trade.  We are glad to have them aboard and hope to have more soon!

The Steering Committee and Consortium both met with the Planning Team for the very first time in August.  Both meetings were a huge success!  The Steering Committee aims to keep the Oglala Lakota Planning Project aligned with the "Voice of the Lakota Nation."  We are currently looking for two High School students to be part of the Steering Committee, so if you know of anyone email us () or call us (455-2700).

Keep checking our website for more cool updates, videos, and other awesome information!

Below is a slideshow of photos taken from our Steering Committee Meeting, Thunder Valley Community Meetings, Organic Garden, and of our HQ's. Enjoy!!!

Update! July 12, 2011

Hello Friends and Relatives!

I hope all is well and that your summer is going great. After a few delays, is in full swing. The staff working on this planning project have been working diligently and will continue to throughout the rest of the planning process. We have numerous events scheduled this summer for a detailed list CLICK HERE. Also, we will be airing on KILI RADIO 90.1 weekly from 4pm – 5pm every Thursday beginning July 14th so be sure to tune in.

For those of you that have not heard about or just getting to know the planning project heres a brief explanation of what's happening:

The is a planning project led by the Oglala non-profit Thunder Valley Community Development Corporation, headquartered just north of Sharps Corner in the Porcupine District. This project seeks to align the great need on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation with the true voices of the people in a way that promotes improvement in the social, economic and environmental aspects of our lives that is uniquely Lakota. To further this effort the key stakeholders in the process have come together in the form of a Consortium, which includes Oglala Sioux Tribal programs and agencies as well as non-profits, NGOs, CFDIs and others operating on the Reservation.

This project allows the Oyate of the Pine Ridge reservation a rare opportunity to allow collaboration and partnership between tribal agencies, non-profits, planning experts and people at the grassroots level for development of a Regional Plan for Sustainable Development. This plan will serve as a blueprint for investment decisions, both public and private, to support us here on the Pine Ridge reservation as together, we shape a sustainable future for our children and those yet to come.

We value and appreciate all your questions, concerns and ideas so feel free to call, email, or stop by our office.
